Iran’s state media and international outlets confirm the death of Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. She died on Monday, March 2, 2026, at age 79.
Iranian sources report she succumbed to injuries from the joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Those strikes killed her husband at their Tehran residence compound and claimed other family members.
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh fell into a coma after the attacks. Tasnim news agency stated she never recovered and passed away two days later.
The strikes also killed one of their daughters, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and a grandchild.
Born in 1947 in Mashhad to a religious family, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh married Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in 1964. Their 62-year marriage produced six children: sons Mostafa, Mojtaba, Masoud, and Meysam; daughters Boshra and Hoda.
She kept a low profile throughout her life. Unlike many spouses of leaders, she avoided public roles and photographs. She followed a traditional, private lifestyle.
Iran declared a 40-day national mourning period after the strikes that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top officials. The region faces heightened volatility.
