The UK government is updating immigration rules to offer key protections for specific skilled workers, while Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) prepares to expand its weekly flight operations to London
According to reports, under immigration rule changes taking effect on October 8, 2026, skilled workers identified by the Home Office as victims of modern slavery will be permitted to work for any employer for the remainder of their current visa validity.
This temporary lift of standard sponsorship restrictions aims to encourage victims to report workplace grievances (such as excessive work hours, passport confiscation, or low pay) without fearing immediate loss of legal status
PIA Expands London Flight Operations
PIA has also announced an expansion of its UK air operations, moving to a daily flight schedule starting October 27, 2026. It brings the total number of weekly flights to seven.
The expanded schedule includes:
- Five weekly flights operating between Islamabad and London.
- Two weekly flights between Lahore and London.
This 75% increase from the current four weekly flights reflects rising passenger demand and confidence in the airline. This step will provide travel convenience and more options to overseas Pakistanis and other travelers
It should be noted that the slots given to foreign airlines at Heathrow Airport were returned to PIA, which will allow it to operate more flights from Pakistan to London.
