Shehbaz Sharif Calls Donald Trump a ‘Man of Peace’, Credits Him for Pakistan-India Ceasefire

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described US President Donald Trump as a “Man of Peace,” saying that Trump’s timely intervention played a key role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

At a function to mark the 250th Independence Day of the United States, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underlined the significance of Pakistan-US ties and congratulated President Trump on his initiatives for regional peace and stability.

The Prime Minister, in a statement to the media, stated that the history of the United States was one of hope, progress and enlightenment. He congratulated President Trump, the US administration and the American people on the event and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further developing bilateral relations.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the United States was one of the first nations to recognise Pakistan since its inception and highlighted that the bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United States has been on the rise for over 80 years.

The Prime Minister also discussed close cooperation between the two countries in areas such as counter-terrorism, trade and investment, agriculture and industry. He also announced that about 80 big businesses of America are already present in Pakistan, which is contributing in providing jobs and growth of economy.

He also accepted the role of the Pakistani diaspora and Pakistani workforce in the United States, which he termed as an important link between Pakistan and the United States.

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker previously welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s attendance and called the Pakistan-US relationship a strong and enduring partnership.

According to Baker, the two countries are cooperating strategically based on mutual interest and respect. She emphasised that the interest of the United States is a strong Pakistan and a strong Pakistan is the interest of the United States.

In the context of regional diplomacy, Natalie Baker mentioned Islamabad had hosted talks between the United States and Iran. She also referred to the recent Iran ceasefire and quoted PM Shehbaz Sharif and President Trump as having commended the Pakistan’s Field Marshal for his contribution in the support of peace efforts.

Speaking about her personal experience Baker said, “Earlier this year I had the chance to celebrate the famous festival of Lahore – Basant. She also noted that continued cooperation in agriculture, trade and industrial development is contributing to the well-being of people in both nations.

The remarks come at a time when Pakistan and the United States are seeking to expand cooperation in economic, security, and diplomatic fields, with both sides expressing optimism about the future of bilateral relations.
