Treasures Emerged from the Ground Amid Nepal Floods, Locals Attempted Theft

As terrible floods keep destroying parts of Nepal, security forces are rushing to protect buried financial assets, after successfully digging out flooded bank buildings and arresting people trying to steal heavy safes that washed down the river.

During the severe flooding that buried commercial buildings and infrastructure under feet of debris, rescue teams turned their attention to financial institutions.

Following hours of intensive excavation using heavy machinery, the Nepal Police successfully recovered major assets from the ‘Krishi Vikas Bank’ branch in Trishuli.

Authorities safely transferred approximately 1.5 crore Nepalese rupees in cash, gold valued at around 50 crore Nepalese rupees and crucial institutional documents to a secure location.

The Dhading Vault Incident and Arrests

In a separate incident, a bank safe from the upper catchment areas of Rasuwa was ripped from its location and carried miles down the Trishuli River by powerful floodwaters.

The vault eventually washed ashore near Belkhukhola in the Dhading district, where local individuals broke it open to access the cash inside

Acting on the incident, a joint patrol team of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force raided the area, detaining 29 suspects and recovering 9,268,505 Nepalese rupees in cash.

Authorities have stepped up security patrols across flood impacted regions to protect commercial properties and prevent further theft.
