US May Consider $250 Currency Note with Trump’s Image: Report

Members of the Trump administration have reportedly pushed U.S. currency officials to explore the creation of a new $250 banknote featuring President Donald Trump, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The report, which cites four current and former employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, claims that discussions have been ongoing since last year. It alleges that Treasury Department officials, including Brandon Beach and senior adviser Mike Brown, have repeatedly urged staff to prepare preliminary design concepts for the proposed $250 note.

Proposed Design Sparks Legal and Ethical Concerns

According to agency employees, the idea has raised internal concerns, as current U.S. law and longstanding tradition prohibit living individuals from appearing on American currency. For more than 150 years, U.S. banknotes have featured only deceased historical figures.

Despite this, the report states that draft designs were circulated within the agency in August and September. One sketch allegedly depicted Trump’s portrait centered on a $250 bill, along with signatures attributed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and the president.

Artist Claims Direct Discussion With Trump

British artist Aidan Alexander, identified as the designer behind the concept, told the newspaper that he personally discussed the proposal with Trump. He further claimed that Trump supported several suggested modifications, including incorporating U.S. flag colors and a commemorative emblem marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Official Silence and Ongoing Debate

The Treasury Department and involved officials have not publicly confirmed the existence of an official proposal. However, the report has sparked renewed debate over currency design rules, political symbolism, and whether any legal framework could allow such a change.

If implemented, the proposal would represent an unprecedented break from U.S. tradition regarding currency portraits, and could raise constitutional and legislative questions.
