Eid ul Adha 2026 is being observed across Pakistan today with deep religious devotion, unity, and the spirit of sacrifice. The festival, one of the most significant in Islam, is marked by special Eid prayers, Qurbani (sacrifice), and family gatherings in cities and villages nationwide.
From Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad to small towns and rural areas, large congregations gathered early in the morning to offer Eid prayers. Muslims started the practice of Qurbani, sharing meat with relatives, neighbours and the needy, after prayers.
What is Eid ul Adha?
Eid al-Adha is one of the two great festivals celebrated in Islam, which is held on the tenth day of the month of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar. It is also the end of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah.
Eid ul Adha is called the “Festival of Sacrifice”, it is a testament of faith, obedience and total trust in Allah.
Story Behind Eid ul Adha
Eid ul Adha is rooted in a profound and inspiring narrative of Prophet Ibrahim, whose devotion to Allah resulted in him sacrificing his beloved possession—the most significant being his son, Ismail.
Both father and son were extremely pious and submissive to Allah’s will. Before they were to make the sacrifice, Allah replaced Ismail with a sheep and He blessed them for their obedience and devotion.
This moment became the foundation of the ritual of Qurbani in Islam.
What is Qurbani?
The main act of Eid ul Adha is called Qurbani (Udhiyah) in which the Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice an animal like a goat, sheep, cow or camel, as a sign of devotion to Allah SWT on behalf of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Qurbani carries deep spiritual meaning beyond the physical act:
- Sacrificing ego and selfish desires
- Strengthening faith and obedience to Allah
- Helping the needy
- Practicing gratitude and compassion
The meat from Qurbani is traditionally divided into three parts:
- One share for the family
- One share for relatives and friends
- One share for the needy and deserving
