When Will Safar Begin in Pakistan? PMD Predicts Strong Chances of Moon Sighting on July 15

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the Safar moon sighting 2026 is likely to take place on the evening of July 15, with favorable weather conditions expected across most parts of the country.

According to the PMD, the new moon will be born on July 14 at 2:43 PM. Due to astronomical calculations, it is highly likely that the Safar moon will be seen on the evening of the 15th and July 16th will be the first day of the Islamic month of Safar.

PMD Forecast for Safar Moon Sighting

The department said the moon sighting condition will be good in Sindh and in majority of the regions of Pakistan. There will be clear visibility in several cities and this will make the sighting of the crescent more likely.

In Karachi, the moon will be above the horizon for around 64 minutes after the evening sun sets, and the last sighting time would be about 8:28 PM.

Final Decision Rests with Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

The PMD has released its moon sighting forecast but the official declaration of the beginning of the Islamic month will come from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, based on moon sighting reports received from different parts of the country.

The committee will decide whether 1 Safar 1448 AH will start on the 16th of July, pending the confirmation of moon sightings.

While Muslims are waiting for official announcement, the prediction of PMD suggests that there is a good chance of sighting Safar moon in Pakistan this year.
