In a major relief for commuters, the All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Federation has announced a 15% reduction in bus fares following the government’s recent decision to lower diesel prices.
The decision follows a sharp dip in petroleum product prices over the past few months, which has made some of the reductions available to transport operators and their passengers. The announcement will offer welcome financial relief to millions of people who commute daily on public transport.
Diesel Price Reduction Leads to Lower Transport Charges
The decline in the price of diesel has helped transport to be less expensive. Previously, goods transporters announced a reduction in freight charges by 15%, and the Mini Mazda Goods Transport Association announced a 10% cut in transport fees.
The experts in transport estimate that lower fuel prices will make a contribution to overall transport cost savings and alleviate inflationary pressure for consumers.
Gujranwala Transporters Implement New Bus Fares
After the announcement, the transport operators of Gujranwala have already started implementing reduced fare rates for the passengers. The decision has been welcomed by the residents and they have requested the same to be done in other cities of Pakistan.
It is believed that the fare hike will have a positive impact on the public transport and bus user base, which include workers, students and passengers.
No Fare Reduction Yet in Muzaffargarh and Peshawar
Commuter have complained that fuel price has reduced across the country but public transport fares are not reduced in Muzaffargarh and Peshawar.
In Muzaffargarh, intercity transport operators have yet to reduce ticket prices, leading to concerns among passengers. Citizens have called on local authorities to make sure that transport companies abide by the new pricing system.
Similarly, residents of Peshawar have expressed frustration over the absence of fare reductions despite lower diesel prices.
Regional Transport Authority Yet to Issue New Fare List
Transporters have stated that the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has not yet issued an updated fare schedule. According to transport operators, official fare adjustments in some regions depend on the release of a revised fare notification by the relevant authorities.
Passengers, however, argue that the benefits of lower fuel prices should be transferred to consumers without delay.
Citizens Demand Immediate Action
Citizens across Pakistan are urging district administrations and transport authorities to monitor fare implementation and ensure that commuters receive the full benefit of reduced diesel prices.
With fuel costs declining and transport associations announcing fare cuts, many expect public transport fares to decrease further in the coming days as authorities finalize revised fare schedules.
