As the fiscal year draws to a close, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that its offices across Pakistan will remain open even on holidays to ensure smooth collection of taxes and duties.
Field formations will remain operational throughout this critical year end period to enable taxpayers and optimise revenue collection, according to an official statement by the FBR spokesperson.
FBR Offices Open on Weekends and Holidays
The FBR has confirmed that all major tax offices such as Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) and Model Tax Offices (MTOs) will be operational on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28.
This is done to ensure that the facilitation of taxpayers does not suffer during the last few days of the financial year.
Extended Working Hours Announced
FBR offices will also be open for extra hours on weekends:
- Offices will remain open until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 29
- Offices will remain open until 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, June 30
The extended schedule is aimed at facilitating timely submission of tax returns and clearance of pending tax dues before the fiscal year ends.
Objective Behind the Decision
The FBR has made the decision to streamline tax compliance, boost revenue collection, and eliminate the heavy workload burden for taxpayers in the last moment. The authority has called on companies and individuals to fulfill their tax obligations before the deadline.
Importance for Taxpayers
Tax professionals expect that extended office hours will ease lines at tax centers and enable more efficient processing of payments and paperwork. It is also expected to help the government achieve its total revenue targets for the fiscal year.
