Maryam Nawaz Announces Electric Bike Distribution in Punjab from November 5

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the distribution of 100,000 electric bikes across the province will begin on November 5, with the majority of the bikes allocated to female students.

She stated that more than 1.2 million registrations and over 400,000 applications have been received for the scheme so far, and the verification process is underway. Students who do not know how to ride a motorcycle will also receive at least two days of free driving training through district police and traffic departments.

Addressing a ceremony for the distribution of Honhaar Scholarships and laptops in Sahiwal, Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government’s electric bike scheme aims to make students, particularly female students, more independent in travelling to educational institutions and other destinations. She said female students should be able to travel on their own bikes instead of waiting for their fathers, brothers, or other relatives.

The chief minister explained that district police and traffic departments had been directed to provide at least two days of free riding lessons to students who do not know how to operate electric bikes. The initiative aims to ensure that students can ride their bikes safely after receiving them.
