Prince Rahim Aga Khan V has reaffirmed the commitment of the Aga Khan Development Network (Aga Khan Development Network) to continue supporting humanitarian and development initiatives in Pakistan during a high-level meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari.
The visit is a key diplomatic and community engagement for Prince Rahim, who recently became the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community last year.
Arrival and official welcome at Nur Khan Airbase
On arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V was greeted by President Zardari, who was also accompanied by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. The visiting dignitary was welcomed with a very warm reception with the children dressed in their traditional cultural attire, presenting flowers to the dignitaries.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and senior government officials were also present at the airport to receive him.
Guard of honour at Aiwan-e-Sadr
The visit was formally significant as Prince Rahim received a tri-services guard of honour at Aiwan-e-Sadr from the contingent of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force.
High-level meetings and delegation talks
After the ceremonial welcome, President Zardari, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had a detailed meeting with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V. This was followed by Talks at the delegation level on continued cooperation and development partnership.
Attendance of top leadership at official banquet
Later, President Zardari hosted a banquet in honour of Prince Rahim, which was attended by Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, federal ministers, parliamentarians and diplomats were also present.
Significance of the visit
The visit highlights continued collaboration between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (Aga Khan Development Network), which has long been active in areas such as education, healthcare, rural development, and cultural preservation across the country.
Officials described the meeting as a reaffirmation of strong ties and shared commitment toward sustainable development and humanitarian progress in Pakistan.
