PTI Long March: Aleema Khanum Detained and Key Parliamentarians Arrested

Authorities have stepped up security preparations ahead of the PTI’s planned long march to Islamabad. Several party parliamentarians have been detained. Aleema Khan has also been shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order law.

Several PTI parliamentarians have been arrested or detained ahead of the party’s planned September 27 protest march. Authorities have also prepared security measures in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to manage the expected movement of protesters.

According to reports, lists of PTI lawmakers have been prepared. Five parliamentarians have been detained so far.

• Sanaullah Masti Khel, Saifullah Niazi and Ghaus Muhammad were detained outside Parliament Lodges.
• MNA Dawar Khan and Hamad Jamal Hassan Khan were arrested from Radio Pakistan Chowk in Mianwali.

Aleema Khanum Shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail

PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khanum was detained in Lahore ahead of the planned protest. Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz issued an order for her detention for 30 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. She was shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The detention order cited concerns about public safety and maintenance of law and order. The order said her presence in public could pose a serious threat to public peace and safety.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has condemned the detention. He has said the party’s planned march will remain peaceful.

Rawalpindi Prepares for Protesters

Rawalpindi police have contacted the district administration to seek the closure of 48 educational institutions. According to sources, the institutions would accommodate police personnel arriving from different parts of Punjab.

Around 15,000 additional police personnel are expected to be stationed at these institutions. Sources said the personnel would reach Rawalpindi within 24 to 48 hours.

Authorities have also prepared a strategy to restrict protest convoys travelling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards Islamabad.

According to sources, trenches are planned at several locations on routes leading towards Islamabad. These include GT Road, 26 Number Chungi, Pirwadhai, IGP Road, Aswal Mor and Kati Pahari. Barriers are also planned on various routes.

The security measures come ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 march.
