Punjab Theatres to Remain Closed During First Half of Muharram

All theatres across Punjab will remain closed from 1st to 13th of Muharram-ul-Haram, according to an official notification issued by provincial authorities.

No stage dramas, cultural shows, or entertainment performances will be allowed during this period, it has been confirmed by the Punjab Arts Council. It is applicable to all theatres province-wide and the management is directed to enforce the ban.

According to officials, this was done to preserve the sanctity of the month of Muharram-ul-Haram and to respect the religious feelings of the people during the sacred month. The police also added that the order will not be taken lightly and any contravention of it will be met with the law.

The move falls within the normal procedure, which takes place annually during the month of Muharram, when activities of public entertainment are curbed in several parts of the country to create a conducive atmosphere for religious celebration.
