Solar Panel Prices in Pakistan Drop as Batteries and Inverters Become Cheaper

Solar panel prices in Pakistan have witnessed a significant decline, with the latest market trends showing lower prices for solar panels, lithium batteries, and inverters, offering relief to consumers planning to install solar energy systems.

Market estimates indicate a significant drop in the price of important solar system parts in Karachi’s electronics market in recent weeks. The price of lithium batteries has fallen by almost Rs20,000 and the price of inverters has fallen up to Rs10,000. The cost of solar panels has also dropped, making them more affordable at approximately Rs3,000 per panel.

The reduction is in the wake of the uncertainty surrounding the federal budget that was resolved with no extra taxes levied on solar systems. Many dealers had raised prices before the budget was announced because they were fearing the government would impose new taxes on imported solar products. Some traders even kept an inventory of solar panels, batteries and inverters to prepare for an increase in post-budget prices.

But with no new taxes and plenty of stock on hand, the tide has turned. The drop in prices recently has been due to better supply and relatively weaker demand.

Latest Solar Panel Prices in Pakistan

Presently, solar panels of 585W, 645W and 720W are offered at an average rate of Rs45 per watt, while the rate was nearly Rs50 per watt only a few days ago. This has led to lower costs for residential and commercial solar energy systems for purchasers.

Lithium Battery and Inverter Prices

According to the current market rates, the price of a 5kWh lithium battery is now around Rs230,000. Meanwhile, 3kW to 5kW solar inverters are available in the price range of Rs120,000 to Rs300,000 based on the brand, capacity, and features.

The recent price drop is attributed to healthy inventories and better import volumes that have helped to ease supply and demand pressures, industry watchers say.

Will Solar Prices Fall Further?

Solar panel prices are anticipated to stay unchanged in the near future in Pakistan. They also think there is some room for a little more drop, if demand does not rise out of the blue while imports remain at their current rate.

The latest price drop is expected to encourage more households and businesses to switch to solar energy as electricity costs remain a major concern across Pakistan.
