U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has been lifted, stating that American vessels are now able to return home as maritime tensions ease in the region.
Speaking from the White House, Donald Trump said that Iran must agree never to acquire nuclear weapons or develop an atomic bomb, emphasizing that the strategic Strait of Hormuz must be fully reopened for global shipping and trade.
According to Trump, Iranian nuclear materials allegedly buried deep under collapsed mountain structures were significantly damaged following a B-2 bomber strike conducted 11 months ago. He further claimed that the United States would work to extract and neutralize any remaining nuclear-related materials.
He also stated that there is an understanding involving both the United States and China, citing their technical capability to handle such operations. Trump added that any such process would be carried out in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), followed by the destruction of recovered materials.
The former U.S. president further said that several other issues, which he described as less critical, have also been agreed upon. He noted that he is currently holding a Situation Room meeting to finalize decisions related to maritime security in the region.
Trump also referred to underwater mines in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that U.S. mine-sweeping operations have already destroyed several explosives. He added that remaining mines must be removed or destroyed immediately by Iran.
He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open for uninterrupted maritime traffic without any tolls or restrictions, and all naval mines should be cleared to ensure safe passage for global shipping routes.
