Karachi and Lahore are suddenly confronted with a steep increase in prices of flour and groceries only a few weeks before Ramadan 2026. As 20kg bags are reaching 2,000 rupees and tea prices are increasing in Quetta the people are not able to cope with the high cost of living.
Karachi Flour Prices Hit New Highs
In Karachi, the price of No. 2.5 flour jumped by Rs 10. You will now pay Rs 140 per kilogram. Fine flour and Chakki flour reached Rs 160 per kilogram after a similar Rs 10 hike. These increases hit right before the peak demand month.
Lahore and Punjab Market Updates
The situation in Punjab looks equally grim. Hafiz Arif, President of the Punjab Grocery Merchants Association, confirmed that a 20kg flour bag now costs Rs 2,000. This is a Rs 200 increase from the previous Rs 1,800 price point.
Loose flour in Lahore jumped from Rs 95 to Rs 130 per kilogram. If you prefer Chakki flour, expect to pay Rs 150 per kilogram. Fine flour (maida) reached a staggering Rs 11,000 per maund.
Rising Costs of Tea and Rice
The wheat inflation is not the only one. The price of a single cup of tea in Quetta went up to Rs 60 in tea stalls. This 10-Rs increment affects the daily wage earners most. In the meantime, the prices of rice have gone up by Rs 25 per kilogram in Punjab.
These increases are on a seasonal basis of inflation. But the magnitude of this year growth is placing huge strain on the family incomes.
